About our Jewelry

Who makes the jewelry, and how is it handmade?

Every piece is carefully handcrafted by me, Annie :). I personally design, select materials, and assemble each piece, ensuring every necklace, bracelet, and pair of earrings is made with love, attention to detail, and quality craftsmanship. Because each item is handmade, small variations may occur, making your jewelry truly one-of-a-kind. 😊

What makes jewelry from The Pearly Loft unique?

My jewelry is handmade, unique, and slow fashion, not mass-produced. Each pearl is one-of-a-kind, and I take extra steps like welding jump rings shut to make sure your chains stay secure. Every piece is designed to last for years. ✨

What materials do you use in your jewelry?

I use high-quality Grade-A freshwater pearls, Tahitian pearls, crystals, and 14k gold-filled or sterling silver chains and wire.

Where do you source your pearls?

I source my freshwater pearls from a trusted supplier whose pearls are responsibly farmed in China. My gold-filled chains, wires, and findings come from a small, reputable supplier, and I personally test the gold content to ensure your jewelry contains real, high-quality gold. Every material is carefully selected to create pieces that are beautiful, durable, and made to last.

Where do you source your gold-filled supplies?

My gold-filled chains, wires, and findings come from a small, reputable supplier, and I personally test the gold content to ensure your jewelry contains real, high-quality gold. Every material is carefully selected to create pieces that are beautiful, durable, and made to last.

Are your pearls real?

Yes! I only use genuine Grade-A freshwater and Tahitian pearls. Each pearl is unique, so slight variations in shape and size are natural.

What does “Gold-Filled” mean?

Gold-filled jewelry is made by bonding a layer of real 14k gold that makes up at least 5% of the item’s total weight to a base metal (usually brass). In contrast, gold-plated jewelry usually contains less than 0.05% gold, which can wear off quickly. Because of its higher gold content, gold-filled is durable, waterproof, and hypoallergenic, making it safe for sensitive skin. It’s also resistant to tarnish and everyday wear, giving you the beauty of solid gold at a more affordable price.

What does Sterling Silver mean?

Sterling silver is a high-quality precious metal made of 92.5% pure silver and 7.5% other metals (usually copper) for durability. Over time, sterling silver may naturally tarnish due to exposure to air, moisture, or skin oils. This tarnish is not permanent, a gentle polish with a silver cleaning cloth will quickly restore its shine. With proper care, sterling silver jewelry can last a lifetime and is a classic choice for everyday wear.

How do I take care of my pearl jewelry?

Pearls are delicate and require a little extra care to keep their natural beauty. Avoid exposing them to water, perfume, lotions, or harsh chemicals. Water can weaken the silk or stringing material that pearls are often threaded on, and chemicals (even in tap water, like chlorine) can damage their natural luster.

To keep your pearls looking radiant:

- Wipe them gently with a soft, dry cloth after each wear.

- Store them separately in a soft pouch or lined jewelry box.

- Pearls need a bit of moisture from the air to keep from drying out.

How do I clean my jewelry?

Gold-filled → mild soap + water.

Sterling silver → polishing cloth or baking soda + salt + warm water (sit for 15 minutes and dry).

Pearls → soft dry cloth only, never soak.

Can I shower or swim with my jewelry on?

It depends on the piece. Gold-filled jewelry is water-resistant, so the occasional shower usually won’t hurt it. However, regular exposure to water, especially chlorinated pools, hot tubs, or saltwater can dull its shine over time.

Sterling silver will tarnish faster in water, and pearls should always be kept dry, as water can weaken their luster and the stringing material.

So while it might be okay once in a while, we recommend removing your jewelry before swimming or showering to keep it looking its best for years to come.

Will my jewelry tarnish?

Gold-filled and sterling silver jewelry are both long-lasting, but like all metals, they may change slightly over time.

A. Gold-filled jewelry is very resistant to tarnish, but over years of wear it may look a little dull. The good news is that it’s easy to refresh—just gently rub the chain or wire with lukewarm water and a mild soap, then dry thoroughly with a soft cloth. This will bring back its beautiful sparkle.

B. Sterling silver naturally tarnishes when exposed to air and moisture, but it’s not permanent. A quick polish with a silver cleaning cloth will restore its shine in no time.
